Red Bull’s Max Verstappen dominated the 2022 Formula 1 season, taking home multiple victories and setting a record for the most race wins in a single season. His standout performance earned him the driver’s championship title at the Japanese Grand Prix, as well as leading Red Bull to victory in the constructor’s championship at the Austin Grand Prix.
Despite his success on the track, Verstappen admitted that there can be tension within the team as they strive for continuous improvement. In an interview with the New York Times, the Belgian-Dutch driver emphasised the importance of honesty and open communication within the team. He said:
“We always have a very honest conversation about it. Sometimes, you disagree on things, and that’s fine. That’s how it works in life, but it’s always very important to be honest with each other, and really say when something is not correct.”
As the team looks ahead to the 2023 season, Verstappen is determined to secure his third championship win. He knows that the competition will be fierce, with other top drivers such as Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton vying for the title. Verstappen believes that the key to success is not just having a talented driver, but also having a well-designed car and clever ideas. He said:
“At the end of the day, it’s all about who designs the best car, who comes up with the more clever ideas.”
The 2023 season is sure to be an exciting one, with the top drivers and teams battling it out for supremacy. Verstappen’s talent and drive make him a formidable competitor, and fans are already looking forward to the season opener in Bahrain on March 5th. It will be interesting to see how the 2023 season unfolds and which team and driver will come out on top.
