Lewis Hamilton Optimistic After Best 2023 F1 Practice Session at Singapore Grand Prix

Hamilton Reflects on Mercedes' Struggles and Promising Free Practice Ahead of Singapore Showdown

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, renowned for his prowess on the track, recently shared his thoughts following the first day of practice leading up to the highly anticipated Singapore Grand Prix set for Sunday. In an unexpected turn of events, Hamilton expressed that Free Practice Two marked the “best session” he has encountered throughout this year’s Formula 1 season.

The British racing sensation demonstrated his exceptional skills by securing the fifth-fastest lap times during both practice sessions. However, it was the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz who dominated the time sheets, leaving fans and experts intrigued by their performance.

For the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, the journey since the inception of the new regulations in 2022 has been riddled with challenges. The Brackley-based squad, a dominant force in the sport for years, has struggled to maintain its grip on the championship. Their struggles were briefly interrupted when George Russell secured a victory at the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix, but Lewis Hamilton, their star driver, has not graced the top step of the podium since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

“It’s been a great day here in Singapore. They have done an amazing job with the track changes; I love driving this circuit now more than ever. The new track surface is great, and it made the track even more enjoyable to drive. Then the removal of the four corners near the end of the lap has absolutely perfected the circuit. It’s incredible to drive.

“In terms of our day overall, FP1 was solid. We were still a little bit off where we wanted to be, but it wasn’t too bad. FP2 was for sure the best FP2 session I’ve had this year. It was nice to finish a Friday feeling so positive.

“I think we’ve got a good platform to build off for the rest of the weekend. It’s the best I’ve felt from a Friday this year, so I hope we can do some good work overnight, as we always tend to do, and continue to improve.”

Reflecting on his performance during this pivotal day of practice, Hamilton described it as a “great day” while sharing his insights as part of Mercedes’ post-session review. As Formula 1 enthusiasts eagerly await the upcoming race weekend in Singapore, tomorrow will witness the culmination of preparations with the third and final free practice session, followed by the high-stakes Qualifying session in the afternoon, setting the stage for the race on Sunday.
