Richard Hammond Reveals Most Dangerous Moment Of The Grand Tour Madagascar Special

Richard Hammond didn’t have the best luck during The Grand Tour Madagascar special, A Massive Hunt, as we saw him fight against his tracked Ford Focus RS and the hazardous roads of the developing country. Jeremy Clarkson was sat in the peaceful interior of his MFB Bentley Continental GT – which isn’t being scrapped by the way – and while May didn’t have a great time behind the wheel of his open-top Caterham, his vehicle ploughed through and made it to the end. That’s more than can be said for Hammond’s.

It’s safe to say that Hammond was in a bit of danger in his car, nothing compared to previous Grand Tour moments, but he’s now revealed in an interview the most dangerous moment of the episode.

He explained: “I like to push it a bit, you know, I do like a thrill but I’m not thrill-driven.

“It was quite exciting when a whale shark came up to us in the water, but I wasn’t in danger.

“The most dangerous thing that’s happened to me recently was burning my bits in Madagascar filming The Grand Tour when I dropped a hot meal in my lap. That was very unpleasant.”

Hammond has had his fair share of crashes and moments of danger while filming for The Grand Tour and Top Gear, with the most recent and notable being his crash during the Swizz Hillclimb in the Rimac Concept One.

He discussed how his wife feels about such stunts with The Sun saying: “She’s very trusting.

“She knows I’ve got far too much to live for to do anything stupid.

“I’ve got her and my daughters and my life and I don’t want to throw it away.”

We’re likely to see a more held-back-Hammond since the Hillclimb crash from Season 2 of The Grand Tour, and he’s even admitted that his insurance has been affected by what happened. So, don’t be surprised if he slows down a little.

Despite this, his new show, The Great Escapists alongside Tory Belleci, shows him flying helicopters and other questionable-looking contraptions, so his days of chancing it aren’t completely behind him.

The Great Escapists will be published to Amazon Prime Video on January 29.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: alex@grandtournation.com
