Video: James May Talks Us Through His 250mph Veyron World Record
James May, or Captain Slow as we ironically like to refer to his as, once held the world record for highest speed in a production car. It was the Bugatti Veyron SS, the one with the strips of orange accenting. It had almost 1,200hp from its 16.4-litre W16, and a top speed of 415kmh, according to Bugatti. Armed with tyres that cost £20,000 a set, he set the world record. Although right after that, that title was stolen by Bugatti’s French test driver who set a record of 431kmh which is 267mph.
