Aston Martin Releases The V12 Speedster – No Roof But 700HP

Speedsters have become all the rage recently, and now Aston Martin has added to this new line of rare and high-performance vehicles. This is the V12 Speedster, and via a limited run of only 88, it melds the design ideas of the Vantage and the DBS Superleggera thanks to the Q branch.

There’s no roof or windscreen – part of the Speedster charm – and the design harks back to the 1953 DB3S and 1959 DBR1, while also adding in some of the features of the breathtaking 2013 CC100 Speedster concept.

As there’s not a lot to the body of the car, and what is left consists mainly of carbon fibre. This includes what Aston Martin calls “the spine” which separates the driver and passenger. Because of this, it doesn’t take a lot to move the thing, but Aston still equipped it with a 5.2-litre V12 engine capable of 700hp and 555lb-ft of torque, allowing the car to reach 62mph in just 3.5 seconds and an electronically limited 186mph. You might need to be wearing a helmet at that speed…

Sat at each corner are 21-inch centerlock wheels that hide the much-needed 410mm front and 360mm rear carbon-ceramic brakes.

Inside you’re surrounded by a vista of leather, chrome, aluminium, and 3D printed rubber. And where a glovebox would give you a small amount of storage, this has been replaced with a matching leather bag. Each seat also has a small amount of storage space to hide any extra wads of cash you’ve got lying about on your travels.

Talking of wads of cash, you’re going to need a few if you fancy yourself one of these, with it costing $950,000. Of course, if you’re in the market for one, Q will tend to your every need. The car pictured is painted in Skyfall Silver, and satin black exhaust tips sit at the rear. Inside is coated in black leather with contrasting red door pulls – handles are far too heavy, you see.

Deliveries are expected to begin at the beginning of next year.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: alex@grandtournation.com
