Meet The New McLaren 600LT – The Latest Longtail

We’ve been posting teaser images of a new McLaren for a couple of weeks now, but as of today, the British marque has connected all of their teasers together to reveal their latest supercar, the 600LT. And thank God, it doesn’t look like the Senna. I’ve never seen so many complaints over how a car looks!

While I quite liked the look of the Senna, this new Longtail boasts some highly aesthetic qualities atop of the 370S chassis. Not only have they added an extra 30bhp (to make a total of 600) but they’ve moved the exhausts to the top of the rear deck 918 style to make space for a diffusor. And, while active aerodynamics are great, McLaren has opted for a static wing at the back which makes use of the super-heated air coming from the exhaust. Due to this, the majority of the rear deck and wing have to be completely heat-resistant – the 3.8-litre V8 can run hot!

The 720S has donated its lightweight suspension and brakes, but unlike the majority of McLarens, the 600LT is holding onto traditional roll bars compared to hydraulically-linked dampers.

These changes will result in a much faster version of the 570S according to McLaren, however they are yet to give us any performance figures. So all we can say is it will be faster than the 570S’ figures of 0-60 in 3.4sec, 0-125 in 9.4sec, and a 205mph top speed.

But let’s face it… we’re not looking for outright performance when it comes to an LT. It needs to be scary, track ready, and pure. And thankfully, the spec sheet is adding up nicely. Proper racing seats are an optional extra, as are almost slick Pirelli Trofeo R tyres, so we’re expecting to see plenty of these on-track. Especially as buying the car for £185,000 will allow you access to a McLaren-only track day.

I’m not sure it could get any better, despite not being named after a legendary racing driver.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
