New Lexus LQ Flagship Could Have Over 600HP – Hinting At 2021 Release

The Lexus LF-1 concept is nothing new to fans of the luxury Japanese brand – with the company unveiling the concept over two years ago during the Detroit Auto Show. The unveiling showed Lexus and motoring fans alike what the future of the LX, or possibly even LQ, could look like – and personally, we loved it. It would seem the Toyota owned manufacturer has other plans for the LF-1, with a Car and Driver report informing us that the production version of the concept will actually be positioned above the LX – which is beginning to show its age lets be honest.

Now, nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet but the report mentions that the vehicle will contain many of the core components of the full-size LS luxury sedan, but with a bit of a twist.. mainly the fact that there could be a high-performance model available with a twin-turbo V8 engine which will likely produce over 600 horsepower. The less performance focussed models will still pack a punch with them believed to contain either a twin-turbo V6 with 416hp or a hybrid powertrain good for 354hp.

The base version of the new luxury SUV probably won’t go on sale until sometime in 2021, with this version likely costing around $80,000 rising up to $100,000 for the top of the range model. Lexus is unlikely to launch the top level model on day one and will probably come out a year or so later and is expected to rival the likes of the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 and the Audi RS Q8.

Lexus has also acquired the rights to use the LQ brand name, which leads us to believe that this vehicle cannot be far away at all – which is a godsend considering how historic the LX feels in comparison to its competitors.

Either way, we’re really excited to see this on the road – stick around for updates.
