Paul Walker’s 5 BMW E36 M3 Lightweights Sell at Auction for Sky-High Prices
Paul Walker’s Nissan 370Z wasn’t the only car that sold during the Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auction last weekend. 21 of the late actor’s cars sold in total, five of which being the ultra-rare BMW E36 M3 Lightweight models.
These five German sports cars each went to auction with no reserve and fetched quite the selling price. The most expensive was an example with only 4,600 miles on the clock, so unsurprisingly it sold for $350,000 before fees. The second went for $235,000 with 42,514 miles on its life, and the third Lightweight sold for $220,000 with just 14,283 miles. The final two both went for $200,000, with 15,485 and 34,400 miles on them.
Only 120 odd of these Lightweight E36s were built making them an extremely rare edition to anyone’s collection, and with Paul’s examples all sporting an Alpine White paint job with all but one with additional chequered graphics, they are certainly lookers. But the sweet powertrain and balance are (hopefully) what people buy these things for.
Under the bonnet sits a 3.0-litre NA straight-six engine which pushes 240bhp to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. As you can see from the photos, these examples were in perfect condition both in and out, and with its celebrity owner, they are well worth their value. However, as recent patterns have suggested, this will raise the values of other cars, regardless of their history.
