Video: Mercedes Benz AMG ONE Exhaust Sound Revealed
The Mercedes AMG ONE is supposed to start a new era of motorcar. Like the Aston Martin Valkyrie, it lives where road cars meet racing cars, putting the very technology that propels Lewis Hamilton to victory, on the public road.
Surely then, this car must sound incredible. It’s the pinnacle of racing technology with over 1,000bhp, four electric motors, and enough downforce to, dare I say it, drive upside down. Unfortunately, the 1.6-litre V6 that powers the internal combustion part of the powertrain isn’t much of a howler, and a you can hear in the video below, it’s quite underwhelming.
It’s a looker, there’s no doubt about that, but a massive part of a car is the sound that emanates from the exhaust. This is a major reason why enthusiasts are hesitant to welcome electric cars into the fold, and why V8s run rampant in America.
The sound is so much more than just sound. It’s spine tingling when done right, and should be reflective of the performance of the car that’s producing it. So, with that said, are we going to be disappointed with the AMG ONE?
Let’s face it, the majority of us will never be able to afford it, so what parts of the car can we enjoy? The way it looks, and its sound. Mercedes, so far, have only got one part of that equation right.
