Video: Toyota Rav4 Gets Struck By Lightning… TWICE!
We’ve shared our fair share of motoring videos from drag racing accidents to pure bad drivers, but we’ve never seen anything like this.
This is a clip from a dash cam in Russia, yep, plenty of those about. But this video isn’t like anything you’ve ever seen. In just fifteen seconds, lightning hits a Toyota Rav4 twice as it drives through the pelting rain during a freak lightning storm.
Both times it seems to connect with the rear of the car, but it looks like this biblical lightning bolt hasn’t affected the car whatsoever. As it would have anyway, it just comes to a stop gently behind the stationary traffic. Of course, no one seems to be interested in asking the occupants if they’re okay, and the occupants don’t show any interest in getting out the car to have a look themselves. Although as we know from Top Gear, it’s probably safer to stay inside your car during weather like this.
As Hammond explains in the video, the car’s body forms a Faraday cage which allows the lightning to shoot around the exterior of the car instead of hitting the passengers. It then grounds out by jumping to the road surface.
It’s been confirmed that no one was hurt during the video. Nature, you scary!
