Richard Hammond Jumps To Defend The Grand Tour In Awkward Moment

The Grand Tour host Richard Hammond has jumped to defend the show in an awkward interview with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on ITVs The Morning.

The host appeared on the show as part of the promotion for the new episode, The Grand Tour: Eurocrash, which has been released to Prime Video today. However, things took a turn when Alison Hammond said that the new show is pretty much the same as Top Gear. The This Morning host said:

“I’m so excited about this because I love The Grand Tour but – and I said this to you earlier – it’s basically Top Gear.”

Hammond saw the funny side of the situation but also made sure to defend the show. He responded:

“We reinvent ourselves every time and it’s fresh and new, we haven’t been pedalling the same old stuff so do not say that.”

However, Alison continued, adding:

“The Grand Tour. T is Top, G is Grand and then you got T. Top Gear Two. It’s the same programme, innit?”

Hammond hosted Top Gear alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May from 2002 until 2015, when the former was forced to leave after his controversial and infamous run-in with the producer of the show. The trio then made the move to Amazon Prime when The Grand Tour was formed.

The hosts now just do ‘special’ longer episodes which ends up being just one or two a year. In the latest episode, Clarkson, Hammond, and May travel around Eastern Europe where they get up to their usual hilarious antics.

The Grand Tour: Eurocrash is available on Prime Video.
