The Grand Tour

The Grand Tour Series 2: Cars That Might Be Featured

The first series of The Grand Tour had its fair share of impressive cars from the Holy Hypercar Trinity of the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and LaFerrari to the Bentley Bentayga. The boys have their work cut out for them in trying to top series 1 (the proverbial difficult second album?), but we are sure they will have plenty of amazing cars to choose from. One has to wonder then, what might they be driving in the new series?

Bugatti Chiron

1. The Bugatti Chiron

This is an obvious choice. All three of the guys love a good hypercar, and that goes double for Bugatti. They drove all of the previous models extensively in their Top Gear days, and even used the Veyron as a bench marker in the season finale of The Grand Tour against a Porsche 918. The other reason why they’re sure to love it? The only reason it has a battery is to start the engine. While most other sports car companies are experimenting with hybrid power, Bugatti has stuck to what it does best; stuffing a massive W-16 into a svelte body, strapping four turbochargers to it, and then charging trouser-troubling prices for it.

The looks haven’t changed dramatically, but Bugatti say that engine has been fettled to the gills. To achieve their 25% increase in power over previous models, they say every part of the engine was carefully and purposefully redeveloped. The result is a W16 engine, with not one but four turbochargers, which creates 1,500 HP. All of which means that the top speed is limited to 261 mph (due to the tires), but it is expected to be able to go over 270 when all is said and done.

Dodge Demon

2. The Dodge Demon SRT

If you didn’t know it already, you should have guessed after episode three of The Grand Tour: Opera, Arts and Donuts; Hammond is a fan of the muscle car. He is also as his colleagues like to point out, a “secret American” especially when it comes to his car choices. For this reason alone, Richard will be excited about the Demon, but that’s not all.

Dodge has gone to a great deal of effort to sensationalize the Demon and increase the hype surrounding it, in part by putting out short “teaser” videos revealing little details at a time. When we say little details though, we really do mean it. Everything that anybody really knows about it so far is speculation. Rumor has it though, that it will produce 815 hp from an updated version of the Challenger Hellcat’s engine, a supercharged Hemi V8.

3. The Pagani Huayra Roadster

In somewhat of a stark contrast, Pagani is another of the Hamster’s favorite manufactors. Muscle cars, like the Demon and Hellcat, couldn’t be farther removed from the precise Italian designs of the Pagani Zonda, and it’s successor, the Huayra, but the fact remains. It would only make sense then that Richard would be itching to get behind the wheel of this latest model.

Unlike some of its competitors, Pagani have resisted the urge to simply chop off the top of the Huayra and call it a roadster. Rather than sticking with the traditional formula of making a convertible heavier and slower, Pagani have made the Roadster faster and lighter. Lightweight materials mean it weighs around 170 pounds less than the coupe version, and the Mercedes-AMG twin-turbocharged V12 gives it 764 horsepower, 44 more than the coupe.

This is obviously not an exhaustive list, and there are going to be a lot of exciting cars coming out soon, along with a number that we didn’t get to see. Though they have lap times listed on the board, we never got to see the boys or the American actually drive the Porsche 911 GT3 RS or the Audi R8 V10 Plus. Then of course there are the cars coming further down the line that we are excited to see, like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan or the Mazda RX-9. We’ll just have to wait and see!
