A YouTube Inventor Has Built A Model 3 Pickup Truck – Truckla

If you haven’t ever watched a video by Simone Giertz, you’re doing yourself a disservice. It’s more than likely that you’ve come across her videos without realising, but if you really haven’t watched her robotic creations do something mad, then we’re here to help. If you haven’t guessed, she’s an inventor, and she spends her time putting things together that don’t usually work, but this time she turned her gaze to something larger – the Tesla Truck.

After her purchase of a Model 3, she got bored of the teasing of the Tesla Truck, so decided to go about it herself. Here’s the teaser.

Her and a team of YouTube engineers and friends took to fabricating the Model 3 over the S because of its steel chassis. It’s much easier to fabricate parts for that over the aluminium chassis of the Model S. Their idea wasn’t exactly well thought out despite a year of planning beforehand, but she quickly put down a deposit on the car and fell in love. She fought through her cold feet, and began extracting the rear innards of her new Model 3 in a rented shop. This was of course after she keyed the trunk.

After scooping out the rear-end and lining it, they also added a rack on top to add more storage as the Model 3 itself is only a small car even with a truck bed. Watch the full 30 minute video below for all the details – it’s really worth a watch.

I don’t know about you, but this really gets me excited for Tesla’s official pickup truck. And if anyone with the funds and expertise to do this themselves is reading, fancy making an aftermarket ute mod for the Model 3? I’m sure you’d at least sell a couple?

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: alex@grandtournation.com
