The A90 Toyota Supra Has Just Got Cheaper After An Engine Change – The Perfect Spec?
The new Toyota GT86 is on its way and while we’re very excited for that, we’re also very excited about an upcoming change on the new Toyota Supra. Well, I say new. It’s actually been officially released for almost a year now. But thanks to some low sales figures, it seems as though Toyota is addressing this by making it more affordable.
What does that mean for the car, then? The Supra will soon be available with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. Producing 258bhp (compared to the 3.0-litre’s 335), it will push to 62mph in a respectable 5.2 seconds. But this isn’t the most exciting bit. The loss of weight, 100kg to be precise, it far more interesting because not only does this mean it can accelerate so quickly, but it will also be more agile than its larger-engined brother.
In fact, thanks to the smaller engine that can be pushed towards the cabin further, it has a perfect 50:50 front to rear weight distribution.
Unfortunately, though, this variant is only coming to European soil, where it will be produced with black Alcantara upholstered seats, 18-inch wheels, and an optional sound system upgrade. But if you fancy paying a bit more, you can grab yourself a limited edition Fuji Speedway model, which boasts 19-inch wheels, metallic paint, and red mirror caps. Only 200 are being made of this special edition so if you’re in Europe and fancy your chances, get in touch with your local dealer ASAP.
This could very well be the go-to model of the range. Maybe Toyota may think about adding a manual transmission, too?
